Could anyone give me information on sending/receiving television signals?  What
sort of equipment do I need?  I'm working with a VHF/UHF transceiver now, and
have no additional equipment as yet.  Any help anyone could give would be

Subject: BPQ and Windows3.1

I am trying to set up a BPQ node and run it under windows 3.1. I can get
the software to run normally under dos, but when i load up windows things
start to go wrong!! At the moment i am using DEBUG to kill the com ports
and that seems to work, but i am not sure if this is the correct thing
to do.
Also when i load up more than one program, ie Chat4 or term4, or traffic, then
things start to crash, and i have had a few serious crashes in windows
which i don`t like!!

I would be grateful for any advice...

Subject: DSP alternatives

I'm just a Ripvanwenkel type, thinking of getting into packet,
so please excuse novice question, but
I am trying to figure Packet out just as DSP chips are
going through rapid evolution.  I was looking for good buy in
audio DSPs and was looking at a SoundTrax for $289 1-800-260-6771
which has a Motorola MC68EC000 and a STAR SPROC-1400-50
which has 4 DSPs at 10MIPS each for 40 MIPS so it can do
simultaneous two channel A/D and D/A 16bit up to 44 kHz.
(also includes wave table for playing with music).

Has anyone looked into programming this with the included
"Sound Engineer DSP" software or whatever?

I wanted something DC coupled for data acquistion, but it's 20-20KHz should
be OK for packet.

Subject: EOSS Balloon Flight In Denver

Edge of Space Sciences, Inc. (EOSS) is a non-profit organization
comprised of individuals interested in the use of high altitude balloon
flights to offer an experimental platform for students and other
experimenters. The group has a very high level of participation by
amateur radio operators, however, this is NOT a requirement for
membership and participation.

EOSS has flown 14 successful flights over the past few years. We
regularly fly amateur television, and a suite of atmospheric sensors.

Other experimental payloads have included, GPS and LORAN-C for a
comparison of their accuracy. Homebrew differential GPS on the same
flight. Students of Coloraro University at Boulder (CU) created their
own differential system using a gps receiver at a KNOWN location, and
calculated the offsets themselves, allowing the GPS vs. LORAN-C
comparison greater accuracy.

EOSS hosted last year's "National Balloon Symposium" in Denver Colorado.
People from more than 10 states, and Canada were in attendance as well
as some of the commercial providers of equipment used in our "hobby".

We plan to fly EOSS-15 soon and here is our general information release
about this flight. If you have any questions about the flight or EOSS

EOSS-15 FLIGHT PROFILE

LAUNCH SITE:
Thunder Ridge Middle School
Picadilly and Smokey Hill Rd.
Aurora, Colorado, USA

longitude 104.75050 deg West

(The lat/lon is actually for a location within 1 mile of launch point. I
haven't been to the launch site to take an accruate fix yet.)

LAUNCH DATE: February 26,1994

LAUNCH TIME: 1600 UTC  (Set up 1400 UTC) Launch time subject to FAA approval

ON-BOARD EXPERIMENT: Conducted by Cherry Creek High School.

PURPOSE: To measure the various levels of alpha, beta, and gamma radiation at
various altitudes.

SHUTTLE FREQUENCIES:
Packet:    144.340
ATV:       426.250
CW Beacon: 147.555
Carries the call of WB4ETT

There will be a HF net run by Sparky\ KA0DPC on 7.232 MHz (phone). And the
FOXHUNTER'S  will coordinate on the Colorado Repeater Association's repeater
147.225 MHz (+600kHz). This will also be used for some local information
during the flight. Thanks in advance to the Colorado Repeater Association
for the use of  their repeater.

REMARKS: Edge of Space Sciences will provide the platform for Cherry
Creek High School and Thunder Ridge Middle School to study the lower
atmosphere. Cherry Creek H.S. students have modified a geiger counter
to meet the EOSS interface specifications which will measure the alpha,
beta, and gamma levels of radiation vs. altitude. The experiment will
gather data that should interest local NASA and NOAA officials.

Thunder Ridge M.S. students will make graphs that will help them
understand the temperature vs. altitude and balloon dynamics by
graphing the ascent and descent rate of the balloon.

The project will be presented at this years Denver, News 4 Education
Exposition at the Colorado Convention Center on March 11,12,13 1994.

Subject: VHF/UHF Packet BBS

I'm interested in setting up a packet BBS system in the VHF/UHF range.  Could
anyone point me in the direction of a good TNC?  Also, would I need any
additional software?  I have a BBS set up using a regular modem, so could I
just change some configuration settings and be able to use it for packet?

Any help would be appreciated...

If you already tried all that, you can only check that you have the correct
settings for your serial port (ie: serial.device, speed etc...)
I don't think that in KISS mode, the program tries to sync.... this is only
for HOST mode!  Your problem seems very strange!

I have managed to get the software to work.  For some reason the MFJ was not
switching into KISS mode.  I manually issued the KISS ON command while in
AX.25 using other term software.  No positive response (i.e. "KISS WAS OFF",
etc.).  After fooling around with it for a bit I issued the RESET command, and
the unit locked up on me.  I then hard-reset the MFJ by removing JMP5.  Upon
being turned back on, no further problems were experienced.  Once I verified
that the MFJ was switching in and out of KISS mode properly, I loaded up
AmiCom and it worked perfectly.  It appears to be a nice piece of software;
the nicest I have seen for the Amiga to date.
